I've been living at home for the past seven weeks, interning two days a week at the Palm Beach Zoo (I work behind the scenes at the 'shows' - if you ever happen to make it there on a thursday or saturday, look for the intern drenched in sweat working with the Binturong in the Wild Things show. That's me!)
On my others days I go to the beach and walk for three miles, scouring the shoreline for amazing pieces of sea glass and other novel objects that have been carelessly abandoned by humans. I do also pick up the occasional odd-shaped pebble or pretty seashell. So far, I've found the usual brown, green and clear glass, adding them to my already-extensive collection. Peppered in are the light green, light blue, and hunter green pieces that give me a rush. And every so often, I find something spectacular that makes me giddy!
Some of those items are:
-a shark's tooth,
-a barnacle shell the size of a baseball,
-a dark grey piece of glass,
-6 extreme dark purple-but-virtually-black pieces of glass,
-a beautiful, perfectly polished lavender piece of glass,
-an extremely corroded penny,
-and a slightly corroded Canadian 25-cent coin (Canadian coins in Florida?).
I'm thinking of incorporating some of these things in with the awesome feathers and porcupine quills I find from the animals I work with in a still life - but I can't really see it in my mind yet, nor can I find any inspiration anywhere for this particular project.
I'm also thinking of getting a new dA account, one for the work that I'm actually proud of. Because I took a stroll through my gallery the other day and was horrified by what I have in there - too many to just delete. Now if only I had the time! Too bad I didn't think of this BEFORE my summer class started..
As for my photography, it's very limited at the moment. The Florida heat is way too much to handle out in the field.
Okay, now I'm bored with updating.. off now to gallavant.

That was the scary part, that someone understood me.
